Week 1 What is the Purpose of the Intro to Entrepreneurship Course

I found this week’s reading rather interesting and in some ways motivating. I took this class because it was necessary for my degree and not because I was interested in being an entrepreneur.
I think the things that I learned most from this weeks readings and videos where things about myself.
“When young people can acquire the skills, the techniques, and the knowledge of these times, and along with it have a spiritual commitment and a solid faith and cleanliness of life, there is nothing that you can’t achieve; nothing in righteousness or in reason.” From this quote from Richard L. Evans it has helped me to realise there are many aspects to being successful. Just being knowledgeable and working hard is not enough, it is important to have a holistic approach to learn the and acquire the temporal knowledge and skills, but in addition to that, to prepare and strengthen ourselves spiritually. I really liked the idea of to achieve we also need to commit to “the cleanliness of life.” I made me think of the importance of integrity in all we do.
One thing that stood out for me in a few of the readings was the importance on not taking the path of least resistance in what I do. It can sometimes be easier to take the easy life, but that is not what is going to help me be the best that I can be. Along with this idea I liked Elder Bednar’s take on embarking in the service of God with a ‘mighty heart’ and a ‘strong mind’. When taking on studying I feel. Having these two things helps in being successfully. To have a determination in what I do and take on. I think this statement from the entrepreneurial hero reading is what needs to be asked “Are you ready to choose that more difficult—but much more rewarding—path?”
I really like the Ricks college mission statement:
1.  Build testimonies of the restored gospel of Jesus Christ and encourage living its principles.
2.  Provide a quality education for students of diverse interests and abilities.
3.  Prepare students for further education and employment, and for their roles as citizens and parents.
4.  Maintain a wholesome academic, cultural, social and spiritual environment.
I would like to keep some of these things in mind when I am thinking about creating my own study mission statement.
I liked the three questions raised in ‘Living Life as an Entrepreneurial Hero’ Do you long to be successful? being the first. I think being successful can be taken in different ways, but I really need to think what does that mean to me? What do I consider as being successful? I thought the three questions at the end of the reading sums up well what is means to be successful:
“1. Did I accomplish something meaningful?
  2. Was I a good person?
  3. Who did I love and who loved me?”
The second question, Do you want to make a difference in the world? This is what I want, to make a difference in the world, but the question is what is it that I can do? What is Heavenly Father’s purpose for me here on the earth that I personally can do to make a difference in this world? which is the third question asked as well as the next part of that question on other days feel completely lost?” I generally have the the feeling of being lost.
I think the part in the reading of looking for our calling really helps with what our purpose is and the some days feeling completely lost. This was helpful to me “Begin by focusing on your most precious talent, your rarest gift, that task you do better than anyone else. Sometimes you have to ask others to help you identify it, because it’s often something that comes so naturally to you that you don’t even realise it’s something you’re good at. And search for clues to your gifts while you’re in “flow” states, those timeless, in-the-zone moments that engulf you when you are consumed by a task you love. Look for times when you practiced for the sake of practice alone or when you completely lost track of time—these times will often help identify a gift. I need to look for something that brings me joy. This is the one thing that I struggle with and must concentrate on looking for. I feel this will help me in my quest to know what direction to take my life in.
It is important to have people around you to help and support you. We need to use the people we know to help us get to where we want to be, or in contact with people that can help us get there. Learn to not be frightened to ask.

Remember:

Study and do what you love

Dream big

Never give up!

Take control of your future

Invest in yourself
